QA Lab Lead: Lift Bridge Brewery

History

Lift Bridge Brewery is a production brewery located in the birthplace of Minnesota, Stillwater. We are celebrating our 11th year of business this year. Lift Bridge will be building a new brewery over the next year with a starting capacity of 35,000 bbls and room to grow past 80,000 bbls.

Description

The Lift Bridge production team is looking for the right person to grow with us. We are seeking a person who is outgoing, quality and safety minded, hard-working, a self starter and of high character. Previous production brewing experience is required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Yeast management and record keeping

  • Biochemical analysis of beer in different stages

  • Microbiology testing to ensure quality

  • Record and interpret analytical test results

  • Assist in running and tracking data related to sensory panels

  • Sensory training

  • Communicate known beer quality issues to appropriate people

  • Research and development of projects (barrel aging and sour programs)

  • Conducts basic tests (microbial and chemical) on all primary fermentation samples

  • Assist in maintaining laboratory equipment

  • Contributing to an atmosphere of teamwork within the department and throughout the company

  • Keep a clean and organized work area

  • Communicate known quality concerns, needs, and lab suggestions

  • Maintain internal QC education program

  • Lead ongoing internal QC education and communication

  • Maintain a product retention sample library

  • Create and Maintain Specs for Brands

  • Establish yearly lab / QC budget

  • Reinforce data process

  • Establish Taste Panel

  • Lead Innovation of process and improvements and new products

  • Establish Process for Handling complaints

  • Cross train in cellar - harvesting yeast and cover vacations

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in related field

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

  • Have a degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, Biology or Biochemistry preferred or relevant lab experience

  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule with little supervision

  • Must have experience and understanding of aseptic packaging procedures, cleaning and sanitation, preventive maintenance, brewing microbiology and microscopy, record keeping and data analysis

  • Be able to communicate effectively

  • Must have excellent time management skills

  • Must be computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Ability to keep the working environment clean and sanitary

  • Able to lift 55 lbs and move 165 lbs occasionally

  • Ability to understand and execute against deadlines

  • Have a hard work ethic and positive attitude

  • Effectively multi-task and have problem solving capabilities
