Packaging Associate: Surly Brewing Co.

Surly makes and packages a lot of beer. Our Packaging Associates help in multiple ways to keep things running smoothly and ensuring that the beer gets to the customer in a perfect state.

Our Packaging Associates enjoy the day to day packaging of all the Surly beers and work to keep the canning and kegging lines clean and running smoothly. Basic requirements include:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Brewery experience preferred. 

The Packaging Associate is responsible for cleaning and other tasks to help keep the flow of the packing schedule on track. General duties include:

  • Assists in the operation of the canning line and/or kegging line.

  • General brewery cleaning through manual means and automated cleaning in place (CIP) systems.

  • Helps load finished beer onto pallets. Wraps and labels pallets for outbound shipping.

  • Moves finished beer pallets and raw materials using manual hand jacks, electric hand jacks and forklift after internal certification.

  • May perform routine maintenance and cleaning on equipment in the brewery in accordance with standard operating procedure (SOP)

  • Communicates any known mechanical/raw material issues, including inventory shortages to supervisor.

  • Fills out completely all appropriate paperwork to document production runs and routine cleaning.

  • Brings potentially systematic problems that require immediate action to the attention of the Lead Packaging Associate on the shift.

  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Brewing Operations Director or Lead Packaging Associate.
