The Market Manager is responsible for building and maintaining professional relationships with key distributor personnel and retail accounts (both on & off premise) to grow sales and increase brand presence. Key skills and qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor Degree a plus

  • Experience: 2+ years of previous sales experience in a wine, spirit or beer supplier and/or distributor environment.

  • Comfortable with public speaking and excellent presentation skills.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and comfortable with travel. Valid drivers license and ability to pass background and MVR check required.

  • The ideal candidate would live near or be willing to relocate to Eau Claire, WI or Hudson, WI areas.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite


As the Market Manager Western Wisconsin, you will:

  • Develop extensive knowledge and expertise of Surly products and production process.

  • Drive sales volume and distribution in the assigned territory by identifying new opportunities, active selling, and motivating distributor sales teams to prioritize the brand in their portfolio.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with management, retail sales staff, and bartenders in key accounts.

  • Conduct formal trainings and ride-withs with distributor sales representatives in assigned market.

  • Setup and conduct staff trainings for key accounts.

  • Execute sell-through and merchandising initiatives for retail accounts to increase consumer trial and engagement.

  • Execute simple and multiple distribution goals.

  • Achieve sales goals by brand.

  • Work in collaboration with the Regional Manager as well as Chain Account Manager to achieve team targets, introduce new marketing initiatives and implement promotions.

  • Works directly with distributors and their sales staff to promote the Surly brands, achieving agreed upon distribution and volume goals while staying with market and travel budgets.

  • Use VIP data to identify opportunities or gain other business insights.

  • Monitor beer inventory to maintain proper levels based on sales trends, promotions, new product introductions and our core & seasonal offerings as well as maintain our standard for quality products

  • Perform administrative duties in a timely manner (expense; mileage reports, work calendar, etc.)

  • Attends special events, festivals, beer dinners & tastings as needed

  • Maintains consistent visitation schedule within the market, hitting target account list including chain and independent on and off premise accounts.

  • Monitors product freshness based on date codes at both distributor warehouses and key retail accounts.

  • Hosts occasional on-premise demonstrations/presentations.

  • Represents Surly at various festivals, tastings, tap events and conferences.

  • Performs administrative tasks as require including expense reports, work calendars, sales goals, etc.


      80% of time will be spent actively selling to deliver distribution goals, rate of sale goals, volume goals, period priorities and distributor work-withs. 20% will be administrative.
